The 1844 summer market in the town of Lengerich, in the western German province of Westphalia, is the subject of this antique KPM porcelain plaque, making it an interesting piece of social history as well as a beautiful decorative piece. The scene shows the market in full swing, with a band playing on a stage above a throng of market goers and sellers. In the foreground a boy is shown selling items of food from a tray hung around his neck, while behind him figures are shown sitting around a table drinking wine and conversing.

The plaque is set inside a giltwood frame decorated with foliate motifs and titled 'LENGERICH. / Jahrmarkt Scene.'. The plaque is signed 'Längrich' to the front lower right and bears the inscription 'Königl. Porzellan Manufactur in Berlin, 1844.' to the reverse.
