Arthur Meadows was a painter of coastal and harbour scenes in England, France & Holland. He was the brother of the artist James Edwin Meadows, father of Gordon A. Meadows and son of James Meadows, Snr. Arthur became one of the most revered marine artists of his era and his work has remained in strong demand to this day.
He exhibited 36 works in London these being at the Royal Society of British Artists, 10 at the British Institute and 4 at the Royal Academy where he is known to have exhibited from 1863 to 1872.
The colours of his works often have a rather attractive pastel tone, except his Mediterranean scenes in which the blues of the sky and sea sing out.
