Beatrice Parsons was an extremely well regarded garden painter in the Edwardian era. Her works were collected by collected by fashionable society, including Queen Mary and Queen Alexandra.

Parsons was educated at King's College and at the Royal Academy, and exhibited there from the age of 19. Her skills were soon recognised, and she went on to have many one-woman exibitions, many of which were sold out. She was also much in demand by various members of the aristocracy to paint their gardens.

Our painting is a relatively rare portrait by Parsons. Unfortunately the identity of the sitter is unknown.
