PORTRAIT OF A GENTLEMAN
WEARING A DARK BLUE JACKET AND WHITE RUFF

ATTRIBUTED TO JEAN-LAURENT MOSNIER

Framed size 36 ¼ x 31 ¼ inches
Mosnier was born in Paris and went on to become a painter of portraits and miniatures.
He was approved for admission by the Paris Academy on
29 July 1786 and became an Academician on 31 May 1788.
He exhibited his work at the Paris salon in 1787 and in 1789.
During the revolution he emigrated to London and was well received. From 1791 to 1796 it is recorded that he exhibited 32 portraits at the Royal Academy.
In 1802 he travelled to St. Petersburg, Russia and settled there and was engaged as a Court Painter.
Mosnier died on 10 April 1808.
