THE PRETTY PINE CONE GATHERER

Alfred Fowler Patten was the son of the portrait painter George Patten (1801-1865).
Alfred became a genre painter and went on to exhibit his work from 1850 to 1878 at the Royal Academy. He also exhibited at the British Institute and 118 paintings at Suffolk Street.
His subjects were historical, genre, oriental and country scenes. This painting is very typical of his style and shows his exquisite eye for detail.
Patten became a member of the Royal Society of Artists in 1874.
He lived in London and Brighton.
