Portrait of young man
This canvas was painted by Vittore Ghislandi, known as Fra Galgario (1655-1743), one of the greatest European portraitist of the time. He summarized the experiences of Lombardy painting of reality, enriched by the attendance of Salomon Adlern and Venetian painters. In Venice he studied for twelve years the Renaissance masters and the contemporary artists like Sebastiano Bombelli.
His style was increased by the contact with Giuseppe Maria Crespi's works, during his stay in Bologna (1717-1718), where also he obtained the title of Academy of Honor of the Clementine Academy.
In this amazing canvas, Fra Galgario portraits the half-bust of an aristocratic young man. He wears a sophisticated gray jacket, with golden trimming, analytically described.
In his study, Dr. Valagussa, noted the comparison with the Fra Galgario's portrait conserved in Accademia Carrara in Bergamo, representing Gentleman of Casa Marenzi, the Portrait of Count Andrea Asperti with his son (Private collection) and the Portrait of gentleman with wig (Milano, Collection Koelliker), all pieces of his first activity.
