The dial has a narrow blue outer chapter ring with gilt divisions and within this blue plaques on which the numerals are laid. The dial centre is signed P.Orr and Sons Madras. The dial features a stream to the bottom rendered in blue and highlighted in gold from which foliage, again highlighted in gold, rises up. Birds are also featured in the decoration.
Whereas the case and movement, numbered 883, are typically French it may well be that the panels were produced in India. This is given credence by the fact that the retailers, P.Orr and Sons, Madras.( See picture of their building) were eminent clock and watchmakers and jewellers. They moved from Scotland to Madras in 1843 where the business flourished and in due time became major manufacturers of jewellery and other items of silver and gold.
The clock has its original leather covered carrying case.
