A superb oil portrait on canvas of Prince Constantine of Waldburg-Zeil Trauchburg of Germany who was born on the 8th January 1807 and died in 1862.

The gallant looking officer of high rank and of Royal bloodline concentrates his gaze away from the artist, who has depicted him dressed wearing a military cross with crown above and with his white dress gloves seen held in right hand, his gold threaded shoulder epaulettes stand out with distinction against his red and double breasted dark blue tunic lined with brass bottons either side.

FRAME: A stunning original period gesso moulded frame on wood and finished in a delightfully bright antique gold leafed paint, still bright and well covered.

All in good condition generally, commensurate with age,and looking very respectible for a portrait nearly 168 years old
HISTORY
Waldburg-Zeil was a County located in southeastern Baden-Württemberg, Germany, located around Schloss Zeil, near Leutkirch im Allgäu. Waldburg-Zeil was a partition of Waldburg-Wolfegg-Zeil. Originally ruled by Truchesses (Stewards), Waldburg-Zeil was elevated to a County in 1628, and a Principality in 1803 shortly before being mediatised to Württemberg in 1806.

In 1674, Waldburg-Zeil was partitioned between itself and Waldburg-Wurzach. Count Francis Anthony inherited Waldburg-Trauchburg in 1772 (the districts of and Scheer were later sold to Thurn und Taxis in 1785), and Steward Froben and Steward Henry of Waldburg-Wolfegg partitioned Waldburg-Waldburg after the death of Steward Gebhard.
