Dated 1905, this Edwardian oak antique tambour front desk is a lovely quality. It displays a silver presentation plate describing how the desk was presented to a Mr Henry Robinson on behalf of India Mill's of Stockport. At its height the mill employed around 1500 people in the cotton industry. This particular desk has a slatted tambour front top with an 'Angus, London' stamped working lock with key. Once opened it reveals two small drawers, several letter racks and pigeon holes. There is a central drawer over knee hole flanked by two pedestals both having pull out writing slides. The left pedestal contains four drawers while the right contains two drawers over a single double height drawer, all have the original handles. The desk has panelled sides and back so maybe placed in the centre of a room if so desired (it could be the perfect reception desk maybe?). It is full of the charm and character expected in an antique gained only from age and use. It does split down into several sections and has aged to a lovely light to medium shade of oak with a striking grain, good patina, is in very good condition and has been beautifully cleaned using a traditional form of wax finishing.
