This quality mahogany antique bureau bookcase dates from the Edwardian period, circa 1900, and is in the Chippendale design. It has a moulded cornice with dental moulding above a blind fretwork carved frieze and below which are two astragal glazed doors with floral carved detailing. The doors have a brass clash mould and key with working lock and sit in front of an interior that has three adjustable shelves.
The lower section of the antique bookcase has a moulded fall front behind which there are several pigeon holes and two working drawers. The base of the antique bureau has a two over two drawer configuration, these are graduating and have the original brass handles and blind fretwork carving for that added detail. The piece stands on delightful ogee bracket feet and splits into two sections for ease of removal. It is a medium mahogany with a striking grain, good patina, is in very good condition and has been beautifully cleaned using a traditional form of wax finishing.
