Extraordinary bronze titled "Quand Même!” (translates “Still!"), Model of the great sculptor Antonin Mercié, executed in 1882. "Quand Même!" is a vibrant tribute to the Alsatian resistance during the siege, and whose name resumes the motto of the patriots in 1880: , Despite everything, we still have to resist ... "

Originally, the monument was to be a tribute to Thiers (by whom the conservation of the Territory of Belfort in Alsace at the time was possible).

The sculptor Antonin Mercié, privileging the popular struggle, realized a statue representing an Alsatian defying the enemy, rifle in hand and supporting a defeated soldier.

Bronze with brown patina.

Measurement: H 85cm x 37cm diameter

French school.
Great condition
Thanks to his popular success with "David" and "Gloria Victis", Mercié reached once again people’s hearts with this patriotic model presented in plaster at the Salon of 1882 and at the National Exhibition of Fine Arts in 1883. A very large marble model, now in the collections of the Musée d'Orsay, was presented at the Universal Exhibition in Paris in 1900.

A bronze was acquired by the town of Belfort and decorats the Place d'Armes. A bronze version of the Barbedienne founder is at the Musée des Beaux-Arts in Valenciennes (H. 1,27 m), a bronze is at the Pasteur Museum in Paris (H 65 cm), other versions at the Unterlinden museum in Colmar and the museum National Museum of Fine Arts, Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.
