A fine late George III period Scottish 8-Day mahogany painted dial longcase clock by Robert Beveridge of Newburgh near Fife.

The arched white dial which has its original painted surface has floral decorated corners and flowers in a vase within the arch. The iron dial which has Roman hours and Arabic quarter minute numerals also has a subsidiary seconds and date dial. The elegant pressed brass hands appear to be original. The hood is surmounted by a swan neck pediment pressed with gilt brass roundels and a central eagle finial. It is flanked by freestanding reeded columns with brass capitals and bases.

The elegantly proportioned mahogany longcase is of excellent colour and patination. The trunk has reeded quarter columns, an arched top door panel and a single plinth with bracket feet. The 8-day two-train movement has hour strike on a single bell and a most unusual pinwheel escapement.

Height: 85 in (216 cm) including eagle finial

* R. Beveridge of Newburgh near Fife is listed on page 69 of Brian Loomes’s 'Clockmakers of the World'. He was working between 1781 – 1835.

This clock is in pristine condition.
