A fine 8-day hour striking mahogany wooden dial wall clock by this well-known Bath clockmaker. The beautifully proportioned case has well figured mahogany veneers, a curved base with full-opening door and inspection doors to each side. It has a bold brass convex bezel and turned wooden surround and what appear to be its original pierced brass hands.

The convex wooden dial retains its original crazed white ground with Roman numerals, single minutes and diamonds on the hours.

The 8-day double fusee movement, with rectangular plates and anchor escapement, strikes the hours on a single bell, a comparatively rare feature on wooden dial wall clocks.
Benjamin Lautier is recorded in Brian Loomes’s Watchmakers and Clockmakers of the World: Complete 21st Century Edition on page 466 as working between 1790 until his death in 1846 when he was succeeded by his widow Anne until 1852.
