Ralph Thompson studied at the Leeds College of Art and the Royal College of Art. He built up an international reputation as a wildlife painter and book illustrator. He illustrated many of Gerald Durrell's books in the period 1954-64 and also wrote and illustrated three books of his own. He travelled extensively in Africa and India and exhibited his work in the United Kingdom, New York and South Africa. He was awarded an MBE for his contribution to animal conservation.

This painting is gouache on buff paper and is housed in a simple white strip frame behind glass. If a purchaser requires posting then, because of its significant size and for safety reasons, the glass would need to be removed before posting.
