To be executed in statuary marble or alabaster; enamel dial within gilt bronze bezel

Europa in the act of garlanding the Bull with flowers, a rocky outcrop beneath the beast fronted by the clock dial with rope bezel, the base with a frieze of dancing maidens suspending a swag forming a swing for Cupid 24in. high

See note to cat. #49 for the Europa myth and its use in the Restauration period as an allusion to Napoleon's rape of Europe. Here Europa is shown on the Bull still on the shore, before being carried off to Crete and ravished. The frieze depicts her dancing female attendants who were left behind on the shore.
