Rare Ellipse Cabinet
Iconic Gordon Russell "Ellipse". This is the rarer cousin of the more frequently found Helix sideboard designed by David Booth and Judith Ledeboer, made by Gordon Russell in Broadway, England and exhibited at the Festival of Britain in 1951. After the second world war, there was a great shortage of good wood and designers had to make the best of what they could with subtle decoration and superb craftsmanship. The "Ellipse" was designed by Gordon Russell's Chief Designer WH "Curly" Russell and has two drawers with a fitted cutlery compartment, above two cupboards with a single shelf in each. both are faced with Indian Rosewood veneer which is incised with overlapping circles on the drawers and ellipses on the doors to reveal the white beech beneath. The frame is veneered in mahogany. This is the rarer cousin of the more frequently found Helix sideboard designed by David Booth and Judith Ledeboer, made by Gordon Russell in Broadway, England and exhibited at the Festival of Britain in 1951. This rare longer leg example was exhibited at Liberty, Circa 2010
