The unsigned single fusee movement has shaped plates and has, most unusually, a passing strike. That is to say, it strikes the bell just once each hour, and not the number of the hours. So all it is telling you is that the hour is up; very often, that is all you need to know.
The 8 inch silvered dial is signed for the retailer Marshall & Sons, Edinburgh, finely engraved with Roman numerals.
The inlaid brasswork is in excellent condition, not lifting anywhere. It has its original brass rosette handles and fish-scale side frets, and stands on ball feet. The rosewood case gives the clock a striking appearance.
