With Fine Geometrically Moulded Front and Original Painted Details
Having an Exceptional Honey Colour and Richly Patinated Surface
Cedar Wood, Pine and Elm
A particularly fine and well drawn early chest of four long drawers, this William and Mary period chest is made in two separate sections and is finely cushion moulded with geometric detailing. Unusually made from solid Cedar wood, which has developed a wonderful honey colour, which contrasts well with the ebonised elements to the second drawer helping to emphasise the Maltese cross design.
Other fine features include the subtle carved dentil detail to the underside of the moulded top, the bold double moulding to the waist where it conceals the join of the two sections and the original brass escutcheons with graphic outline and fine engraved details. The chest has twin panelled sides and is raised on straight through stile feet. Early chests of this quality, originality, surface and colour are very scarce. Intrinsically functional and naturally architectural.
