An early Derby dessert plate, with a broad rim of shaped and gilded panels of fruits alternating with moths, surrounding a central painting of a moth and fruiting branches.

This plate is one of a set, others in the set bear the Derby Crown surmounting crossed batons and with a D in red, thus dating the plate to between 1784 - 1806.
The central illustration is very fine and without any knife marking (also for the rest of the plate), only minor rubbing to the very rim.
