D196. Wilson, Southampton Street, Strand, London, circa 1820. A particularly good quality Regency rosewood veneered bracket clock extensively decorated with finely fretted out and inlaid brass-work.

This style of case was probably the most attractive to be introduced in the Regency period and must have been time consuming to produce. The architectural top, which is surmounted by a brass pineapple finial, has flutes terminating in coils to the four corners, with the front pair of these being decorated with delicate brass stringing. The sides of the case have ring carrying handles beneath which are brass fishscale frets. The front is decorated in inlaid brass, that at the bottom being of an attractive floral design. The clock rests on ball feet.

The 5.5" (14cm ) silvered brass dial has strike/silent regulation above 12 o’clock and bears the makers signature in full. There is floral engraving to the four corners and skeletonised heart shaped hands are employed.

The well executed movement has attractively turned pillars and the plates are shaped to the top corners with a cut-out at the bottom. The clock strikes and repeats the hours on a bell and is provided with a pendulum clamp.

Ht with/ without finial 15 ½" / 14". 36cms.)
