A fine Regency figured mahogany tea-poy attributed to Gillows of Lancaster. The rectangular top with moulded and inset edge opens to reveal a pair of storage caddies and a pair of mixing bowls, the sides of the top tapering inwards towards the bottom. The central support with ring turned and with fluted, vase shaped column and a prominently gadrooned lower collar. The quad-partite base supported by four bun shaped gadrooned feet. A lovely piece retaining excellent original colour & patina.

Gillows of Lancaster were probably the most celebrated of all English furniture makers. They were established in the early 18th century, and pieces made by Gillows are very desirable and extremely sought after.
Excellent. Cleaning & waxing. The mixing bowls are replacements.
From a private collection in Nottinghamshire.
English, Regency, George IV, circa 1825.
