The hall seat pattern evolved from designs of an antique Roman marble seat, with fluted legs and drapery-covered seat, that was drawn by the architect Charles Heathcote Tatham (d 1842) and published following his return from Rome in etchings of ancient ornamental architecture, 1799
This fine early 19th century mahogany hall bench is after the design of Charles Heathcote Tatham
with the rectangular top, reeded frieze, tapered legs headed with roundels.
Old repairs on legs, consistent with age and use.
