In 1813 the London trained James Morrison partnered by his father Mathew, advertised there “Cabinet & Chair Manufactory” with London style furniture and became a close rival for his peer William Trotter of Edinburgh. In 1820 costings were made for Sir David Hunter Blair to provide furniture “agreeable in shape, size and pattern to that bought from London” for Blairquhan House in Ayrshire. The agreement was signed in 1823 and from then until 1825 the Morrison’s supplied the majority of furniture for the newly renovated Blairquhan House.
