An early 19th century Regency rosewood mail or letter box.
The box stands on turned wood bun feet and has a knob handle on the lid to open it with.
The hinged lid has two 16cm long slots in the top for the posting of mail and inside the box the interior has a mahogany dividing panel which can be removed.
The lid and bottom edge has a beaded moulding.
The box has had the polish sympathetically restored, and on the inside of the box a small repair where the hinge screws into the top edge. The lock and key are working, the lid is a tight fit and there is a small chip in the wood near the lock. (Circa 1810)
Height 18.4cm (7.25 inches)
Width 26.2cm (10.3 inches)
Depth 17.3cm (6.8 inches)
