Made for defense as well as walking with this unusual cane is a reflection of the owner’s personality and the designs probably held important significance for the artist reflecting pivotal events and favourite allegiances. It could have been used as a cudgel, and for carrying a traveler’s belongings tied in a bundle bound to the crook of the stick, but it may have had no other original function than to occupy the maker and then to entertain the observer.
