Alfred Fontville de Breanski (1877-1957)

Alfred Fontville de Breanski was the son of the well-known and accomplished Victorian artist Alfred de Breanski (1852-1928). Alfred Fontville de Breanski was taught by his father and accompanied him on painting trips to the Highlands of Scotland and the Mountains of Wales. This explains the similarity in their subject matter; however Alfred Fontville de Breanski also trained in Paris, where he would have become familiar with the work of the Impressionists, explaining the difference in their techniques. A.F. de Breanski painted with less detailed brushwork than his father, instead he used broader strokes to capture soft light, and his particular skill was in creating perspective through the tonal composition of his paintings.
