Born in 1930 Trevor Bell studied at Leeds College of Art. After teaching at Harrogate School of Art Terry Frost suggested he move to Cornwall where Bell's work took a new direction. He became concerned with land shape and sea interactions. From 1958 Bell exhibited with Waddington Galleries London.

After taking up a Gregory Fellowship at Leeds University in 1960 Bell had a number of teaching posts in Britain and the USA. He returned to Cornwall and his first show back in the UK in 2003 at the New Millennium Gallery St Ives. The Tate St Ives gave his a show in 2004-05 showing his work from 1967-2004.
