This is taken after a portrait by Samuel Cooper in the collection of Mrs. Walpole
Margaret is said to have painting miniatures in 1771. There are frequent allusions to her in Walpole’s letters and in the memoirs of Mrs. Delany. Some of her works were taken from life, others, like this one, were copies of works by Cooper, Isaac Oliver and Hoskins. Richard Cromwell, was the third son of Oliver Cromwell.
Richard Cromwell was the second ruling Lord Protector of England, Scotland and Ireland, serving for just under nine months, from 3 September 1658 until 25 May 1659
