A fine George III period 2-pad top mahogany table clock of rare small size. The silvered engraved 5 inch brass dial is signed by the maker and has concentric datework and strike/silent in the arch. The backplate is beautifully engraved with flowers and foliage as are the fixing brackets and the backcock apron.

The 8-day movement sounds the hours on a single bell and has a knife edge verge escapement with pear-shaped pendulum bob.

The well-patinated mahogany case has a three pad top with a brass carrying handle, brass moulding with ogee shaped feet.
* Robert Ward is listed on page 812 of Brian Loomes’s Clockmakers of the World: 21st Century Edition. He was working in Abchurch Lane and made a number of very fine musical clocks.

Bracket clocks of such small proportions are increasingly rare and are therefore very sought after by collectors.
