The substantial three train movement which runs for 8 Days, strikes the hours on a gong and each quarter hour on 10 bells. The well patinated rosewood case has fine figuring and brass inlays. It is surmounted by three brass pineapple finials and it stands on 4 brass ball feet. At the front there are 4 delicate faux bamboo pillars and to the sides it has its original carved wooden sound frets and brass carrying handles.
The Roskell family were amongst the most eminent of Liverpool clockmakers and were working in the city from the late 18th century until the 1830's. Ref: Baillie's "Clockmakers of the World" Page 275.
