The two-train movement is engraved on the back plate with the makers name and address in Clerkenwell, a well-established centre of clockmaking in 19th century London. There is a strike-silent facility, which is activated via a lever in a slot in the dial above the XII. The last struck hour can also be repeated by means of a cord that can be pulled through the bottom of the case. The 6" painted dial retains it's original background has only minimal restoration.
The case is veneered in rosewood with some fine brass inlay, the quality of which can be seen on the ridges of the chamfered top. These are solid with inlay only on the front faces but the inlay has a delicate taper that terminates in a curl and circle. A pineapple finial adorns the apex, a popular decorative motif since Charles II was painted receiving the first successfully home-grown fruit from his gardener John Rose in 1675; it has often been used to symbolise hospitality.
Fully restored with a two year guarantee.
