Peter Le Cave was a painter of rustic figures and landscapes in the Bergham tradition, who was probably a member of a family of French artists working in Holland.
He travelled to England and was here from 1789 to 1816.
In 1801 he showed two works at the Royal Academy and is recorded as living at 72 Oxford Street at this time.
He painted views in Worcestershire, Berkshire, Devonshire and Wilton where he was in prison in 1811, for reasons unknown.
La Cave was a friend of Ibbetson and quite possibly an assistant to Morland.
He painted in oils and watercolours and was also a draughtsman.
La Cave had a number of pupils including J.R. Morris and John Thomas Gower.
