Sailors Scrimshaw Wood Pocket Watch Holder inlaid with Whale Ivory and Bone (1800 to 1900 Scotland)

Almost certainly made for use at home rather than on board ship this fine example of sailors scrimshaw carved of whalebone, sperm whale tooth ivory and wood would have once been proudly presented by the returning whaler to his loved one. Decorated with heart motifs it would have held a pocket watch and functioned as a mantle clock.
