A young lady wearing a low cut blue dress, the neckline edged in lace, she wears a ruby pendant suspended from a strand of pearls. Her auburn hair is curled and worn loose. Watercolour in an oval gold frame.

Additional Information: STUMP, SAMUEL JOHN 1778 – 1863 Born, probably in America, in 1778. Studied at the R.A. Schools, 1796, aged 18. Worked in London & Brighton (August 1809). Exhibited at the R.A. (170), Associated Artists, B.I. (55) 1805-49, O.W.C.S. and S.B.A., 1802 – 1849. Painted miniatures, watercolour portraits, landscapes (including Italian & Swiss views), a few oil portraits, and executed engravings. He enjoyed an excellent reputation and painted many sitters from theatrical circles. Was a member of the Sketching Society & an old list of members of the Society calls him ‘The American Stump’. He was a prolific artist often signing S.J. Stump Pinxit/No 7 Cork Street/Burlington Gardens/1816 Stump/Miniature Painter. Represented: NPG London; V. & A. M., the Ashmolean Museum & the Guildhall Art Gallery, London.
