The brother of the poet Gerard Manley Hopkins. He was educated at Lancing College and at the Royal Academy Schools. For many years he worked as an illustrator for the Graphic and for Punch. He painted watercolour landscape and figure subjects which he exhibited at the Royal Academy and Royal Watercolour Society. He is represented in the collections of the British Museum and Ashmolean Museum, Oxford.
