Turned and carved lignum vitae Crown Green Bowls. Each inscribed Thomas Royle, Manchester, and an International Bowling Board expiry date stamp of 1947. The date stamp indicates the last year before a bowl has to be retested to be compliant with international rules. To one side, an ivory roundel bearing the number of the bowl, between 1 and 4, and to the obverse, a blank ivory roundel to accommodate a monogram. Crown Green Bowls require that two players use two bowls each along with a biased jack. The game was first played in 1907. Thomas Royle manufactured his bowling equipment in the Royal Mill. Red Hill Street, Manchester 4.
