Look at what I found on the Online Galleries website!
These chairs have some good details about them, sabre legs all round is always good to see and they also have good proportions with crisp carving. The rope twist design and the sabre legs are said to be references to British victories on land and sea, battle of the Nile, Waterloo and so on. The wheatsheaf motif in the back suggests that the whoever commissioned these chairs was a wealthy land owner. So the original owner could have been a wealthy land owner with military connections (what a surprise).
