Charming and rare set of six silver gilt, engraved, trefid teaspoons. Circa 1690, stamped with the maker's mark only for Jean Harache. Both sides of the stem are engraved with scrolling foliage. The reverse of each bowl has engraving around the rat-tail.

Spoons of this kind, with elaborate, foliate engraving are often considered to be the finest of the trefid period. While they had appeared on the Continent by the 1680s, in England they are generally recorded from the 1690s, anbd so were only made for about ten years which makes them even more rare.
Excellent condition with very crisp engraving and clearly legible maker's mark
