Rare and Unusual Set of Three Charles II Oak Panels, Chesterfield, Derbyshire, Dated 1666.

The set of three panels carved with a geometric floral interlace with S scroll borders, made to commemorate Thomas Pinder’s election as Mayor of Chesterfield in 1666.

The panels are individually inscribed reading from left to right: "Ancient Town of", "Thomas Pinder - Chesterfield", "Chesterfield" each panel dated 1666.
Dark old matt surface with highlights, the edges of the panels with erosion - suggestive of having been within a frame, probably a Coffer front.
Thomas Pinder, Chesterfield, Derbyshire.
Thomas Pinder was an Alderman of the town of Chesterfield, Derbyshire. He was appointed Mayor in 1666 after a number of the towns councillors and the incumbent Mayor were removed from their position due to 'behaviour deemed inappropriate with office'
