A superb Sheraton period mahogany & kingwood banded serpentine sideboard of absolutely excellent original colour & patina. The top with serpentine outline to front & sides with extremely well figured flame mahogany with a perimeter cross banding of kingwood outlined with box stringing. A central cock-beaded oak lined drawer sets off the front of the sideboard, again banded & strung with box, below this a shaped apron. To either side of the central section are too deep drawers (the right hand one a cellaret) with wonderful flame mahogany veneers with an oval banded central section & bordered. The sideboard is supported on six square section, inlaid tapering legs terminating in spade feet. The handles are a design utilising no back plate with a central oval pommel used almost exclusive by Gillows during this period. With the overall superb quality and choice veneers used throughout we are confident that this piece was made in the Lanacaster workshops of Gillows. A truly superb piece.
Excellent. Superb original colour & patina. Minor repairs to veneers, cleaning & waxing. Brassware believed to be original.
