A superb Sheraton period demi-lune pier table, veneered in the finest West Indian satinwood. The demi-lune top with a central, sand burned, box wood floral motif inlaid to a harewood background with emanating satinwood and ebony strung radial fans, finished with boxwood strung kingwood banding. The frieze with satinwood panels, kingwood banded and boxwood strung, with inlaid marquetry urn decoration on each leg hip, the four supporting legs of square, tapering section strung with ebony and with neat ebony ankle cuffs to each leg.

William Moore was born into a family of cabinet makers specialising in inlaid and marquetry furniture following the designs of Thomas Sheraton, George Hepplewhite and Robert Adam. Before setting up his business in Dublin, Moore reputedly went to London where he studied and was apprenticed in the workshops of Mayhew and Ince. His work was highly regarded and the marquetry and detailing on this pier table are typical of his work.
