An early 19th Century Regency Mahogany Scottish longcase clock with an outstanding figured mahogany case. The arch top case has a brass bezel with cross banding and figured book-matched corner quadrants. The trunk has matching cross banding and a beautifully figured door flanked by reed side columns. The base also has a has matched figured panel. It has a painted enamel dial signed by the makers, Mitchell and Russell of Glasgow, has steel moon hands and a subsidiary seconds and date dial. The 8 day movement strikes the hours on a bell. Mitchell and Russell are listed as working 1802-1841
The case has been re-polished and wax finished the movement has been serviced and is guaranteed for 12 months. As with many of the clocks the date mechanism has been removed in the past (it was mistakenly believed this would reduce friction). It can be replaced, although a discount can be offered if it remains disconnected. If you would like a video clip of this clock striking and ticking please email us.
