The watch has been cleaned and serviced and keeps good time. The watch has a slide activated minute repeater and a push button chronograph. To see and hear a short video of the watch chiming and working, please click on the link below:
Movement – the gilt ¾ plate movement has a lever escapement and a slide activated minute repeater with two hammers striking on inner gongs plus a push button activated stop, start and reset chronograph function. The movement is signed “Patent. No 861.88 and 782. The movement is signed “2 + 1, Hahn Landeron” under the top plate – image on request. The movement is in 98% mint condition – superb clean condition
Case – the movement comes in a solid 18K gold Hunter case, which has hinged inner, back and front cover. The inner cover is inscribed:
“Presented to Mr Charles Cork, By the Staff of the South African Railways Stores Department on his retirement from the service 1916”
The watch cover is further signed;
“Examined by Spink & Son, 1 & 2 Gracehurch St, Cornhill, EC & 17 & 18 Picadilly London NW”
The case has a scroll monogram on the front with initials CG. The rest of the case has a smooth plain finish and is in 85% mint condition – the gold wire has worn from the winder and the case has little marks on the edges and sides plus a build up of light surface scratches on the back cover.
Dial – the white enamel dial has a pair of gilt hands plus a blue steel sub seconds hand a sweep centre chronograph hand. The dial is in 99% mint condition
