1936 – English.

Born in Clifton, Bristol and brought up in West London. From the earliest age, painting was his primary interest, and he was encouraged by his parents, both of whom had an artistic background. By the age of 13, he was receiving commissions. His intention was to attend Art College, and another opportunity had arisen in the film industry as a scenic artist. The premature death of his father, however, led him to be advised to seek the security of an apprenticeship in cabinet-making.
After some years, his enduring love of paintings and some limited experience in restoring pictures encouraged him to open a Gallery in Egham Surrey, and from this, restoration became his primary occupation. He became a member of the I.I.C. (International Institute for the Conservation of Historic Works of Art). Also around this time, he was a Founder Member of the Federation of British Artists. In the 1980’s he exhibited at the R.B.S.A. Denby can be regarded as the logical contemporary extension of 19th Century fine quality painters. His importance as a great realist painter is instantly recognisable by the knowledgeable viewer, who enters with him a world they both know and revere. Denby continues to produce with realism and sensitivity pictures that are highly sought by collectors throughout the world. With thirty years experience in restoration, the 19th Century influences his timeless fully-signed paintings; he favours such subjects as English flowers, British domestic Birds, Butterflies, Bees, Insects and rare breed animals. Denby’s animal paintings have been exhibited in the fine timbered Gregynog Hall in Powys and the Mitchell Studio Gallery, Surrey.
