PHILIP EUSTACE STRETTON
Active 1884 – 1919 Signed & dated 1898
Oil on canvas 26 x 43 inches
Framed size 34 ½ x 51 ½ inches
Stretton was a London painter of animals, sporting subjects and genre scenes.
He painted in oils and watercolours and was a follower of Sir Edwin Landseer, whose animal paintings had an enormous impact on him.
Whilst he is mainly known today for his animal subjects he did, in later life do a small number of these beautiful Impressionistic landscapes.
Stretton exhibited his work at the Royal Academy and the Society of British Artists, Suffolk Street and elsewhere from 1884 to 1904.
