A fine and rare Staffordshire Saltglaze teapot and cover, c. 1760. Finely painted in polychrome enamels with a castle surrounded by trees to one side, the other with a boat on a river, before Classical ruins. Having a simple loop handle, painted in iron red with a scroll motif.
The cover painted with a similar scene, and surmounted with a bird finial, again decorated in polychrome enamels.
Repair to the birds head and tail feathers. Typical minor loss to the enamels. Otherwise in perfect condition.
