The goblet has a plain bell shaped form onto a cylindrical pedestal to a circular spreading foot.
The upper portion and foot of the goblet are embellished with a band of bright cut engraved elongated Greek key decoration.
The goblet retains the original gilt interior.
The knife, fork and spoon are Old English pattern, with a pip to the terminal of the fork and spoon.
The front and reverse surfaces of each handle is embellished with further bright cut engraved Greek key decoration, incorporating a vacant oval cartouche to the terminal.
The spoon has a rounded heel and bright cut engraved scrolling decoration to the reverse surface of the bowl.
The pieces of this antique silver christening set are fitted to its original hinged leatherette box with satin and velvet lined interior, secured with a push fit catch.
The interior of the cover bears the retailer’s mark ‘Hunt & Roskell, Late Storr & Mortimer, Jewellers & Silversmiths, to the Queen and Royal Family, 155 New Bond Street’.
The goblet was crafted by the renowned London silversmiths John Hunt & Robert Roskell and bears the retailer’s mark to the rim of the base.
This knife, fork and spoon were crafted in the same year as the goblet by the cutlery specialist Francis Higgins II; this was often the case to ensure the high quality of such a presentation set.
* Campaign sets were carried by officers whilst 'in the field' on military campaigns.
