This exceptional antique George V sterling silver cigarette box has a plain rectangular form.

The surface of this impressive cigarette/cigar box is embellished with impressive engine turned decoration.

The body is further ornamented with an applied hallmarked 9ct gold tapering Art Deco style mounts emanating outwards towards each corner, to a bracket style foot.

The impressive hallmarked hinged cover is fitted with an exceptional applied 9 carat yellow gold collared thumbpiece in the Art Deco style.

The anterior surface of the cover bears an impressive engraved scene depicting the HMS Quadrant*.

The interior of the cover bears the original gilding in addition to the contemporary engraved inscription 'H.M.S "Quadrant", Launched from Hebburn Shipyard by Mrs E. C. Straker, 28th February 1942'** below the Quadrant badge surmounted with a naval coronet.

The body of this exceptional antique cigar box is fitted with the original light cedar wood lining and adjustable divider; this box can be refitted with a bespoke velvet jewellery box fitment upon request.

This antique cigar box has a weighted base and retains the original covering to the underside.

This hallmarked sterling silver box has been independently tested using state of the art technology (Niton XL2 Analyzer) and verified to include 9 ct gold mounts; these mounts indicate the high quality of the piece.

This exceptional antique silver cigarette box was crafted by the renowned London silversmith Asprey & Co Ltd.

NOTE: The majority of such boxes have a wood lining to the cover; a sign of quality when boxes have an unlined, solid silver cover.

* This ship measured at over 109 metres long and was used during World War II as one of the War Emergency Programme destroyers. After a successful service, HMS Quadrant was decommissioned and in 1950 she was docked then converted into an anti-submarine frigate.

** The destroyer was laid down by R And W Hawthorn, Leslie and Company Limited at Hebburn-on-Tyne, England on 24th September 1940. It was not till 28th February 1942 she was launched by Mrs E C Straker, the wife of the shipyard director and later on the 26th November 1942 when Quadrant was commissioned into the Royal Navy.
