STILL LIFE OF FLOWERS & BUTTERFLIES
ATTRIBUTED TO NICOLO CASSISA (CAFISSA)
Oil on canvas 25 x 19 ¼ inches
Framed size 30 ½ x 25 inches
Born in Naples circa 1675 and studied under Andrea Belvedere and worked in his studio assisting him with some of the major commissions for King Charles of Spain.
Around 1700 Belvedere abandoned painting for working in the theatre and Cassisa took over painting many large and highly decorative still lifes of flowers & fruit.
He was also known to paint animals.
Cassisa seems to become more Roman in his style.
His surname can be spelt as; Casissa; Cassisa, Cassissa or Cafissa.
He died relatively young in 1731 in his home town.
