D327. A good striking and repeating skeleton clock by Evans of Handsworth based on York Minster. It has the attractive additional feature occasionally seen on these clocks of a porch to the front of the clock which, in this instance, bears the name of the retailer, J. Monk of Bolton at the bottom.

The chapter ring, with stylised Roman numerals, is surprisingly substantial and attractively fretted out. It has passing half hour strike on a bell and strikes and repeats the hours on a gong. A sign of the care and attention put into its construction is that all the wheel-work has six tapering crossings. A wood rod pendulum , typical of Evans, is employed with a cylindrical pewter bob. A large tapering brass regulating nut is employed.

The clock comes complete with what would appear to be its original marble base, which rests on bun feet, and matching dome.

Height with/without dome 23.5"/ 23". (60/ 59.7 cms.) £6950
